Jay was working in the restaurant business and attending college as a business major when he found himself at a crossroad regarding his life direction. He withdrew from college and through a period of self-reflection and advice from other important people in his life, he wanted to chart a different course for his future. He took an entry level position at a new substance abuse treatment center that opened in his area and returned to college as a social work major. The rest, as they say, is history. Jay is honored and is extremely privileged to be working with people on an intimate and personal level and is inspired everyday by the people he works with.
Jay received his Masters of Social Work from the University of South Florida and has been a practicing clinical social worker for over 20 years. He is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and a certified substance abuse counselor (CRADC). In addition to his many years of experience, Jay has completed the Advanced Psychodynamic Psychotherapy Program (APP) and Child and Adolescent Psychodynamic Program (CAPP) at the Saint Louis Psychoanalytic Institute. Jay also completed advanced training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and other clinical approaches throughout his years of practice. Jay has studied and worked around the country, including South Florida, New York City, and St. Louis. He enjoys facilitating support, process and educational groups and has worked with young fathers, HIV positive men, and treats college mental health needs, grief, substance abuse and various other mental and emotional issues. Jay has presented locally and nationally on young fathers, substance abuse and college mental health.
Jay's extensive education, experience and training come together in a varied, nonjudgmental and warm therapeutic approach. Jay seek to collaborate with his patients, meeting them where they are with their issues and readiness to address them, and helping them achieve their goals. Jay's approach is comprehensive, helping with both immediate concerns and uncovering the deeper roots of problems.
